Genesis Plastics Welding, a Fortville-based contract manufacturer, is holding the Pay It Forward Yard Sale on Saturday August 15th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the company parking lot located at 720 E. Broadway in Fortville. A portion of the sale’s proceeds will be donated to Fortville Main Street Food Pantry, which is operated by the local First United Methodist Church.

The idea for a company yard sale began as the brainchild of a longtime Genesis maintenance employee, who personally finds giving back to be an incredibly positive experience. “When our maintenance lead approached management with the idea of letting employees hold a yard sale in our parking lot with a portion of proceeds going to a local charity, I thought it was an incredible idea,” said Tom Ryder, CEO and president of Genesis Plastics Welding. “It fits perfectly with our mission statement and our corporate goal to be stewards of goodwill. Additionally, it’s a great way for our entire team to work together for the benefit of the community.”

Within the Fortville area, there is a large grassroots pay-it-forward movement taking shape. From the businesses owners along Main Street Fortville, who have banned together to assist one another to grow their local small businesses, to a community-based social pages aiming to help individuals in their own “backyard” and to be the reason their neighbors smile, to local charities such as Lambswear, Inc. and The Jack Roysdon Memorial Foundation, which are built around the notion of helping others. “Paying it forward is becoming a natural way of thought in our local community. As a company, we are inspired by those around us in Fortville, and it brings me great joy to be able to hold a fun local event that will provide benefit to those in need within our immediate area,” said Ryder.

The sale will include individual yard sale booths manned by both Genesis employees and individuals throughout the Fortville Office Park. There will be an estimated 25-30 booths to explore. Items expected to be available include clothes, jackets, purses, home goods, accent pieces, picture frames, cookware, lawn items, furniture and more. Twenty percent of each booth’s sales will go to the Fortville Main Street Food Pantry. Purchases must be made via cash only. Shaved ice and snacks will be available for purchase from The Snow Shack. Dry or canned food will also be accepted for donation. The event will take place rain or shine.
