Congress has passed a two-year suspension of the Medical Device Excise Tax and a permanent Research and Development tax credit.

Indiana’s medical device cluster is one of the most concentrated in the world and Indiana’s economy is significantly impacted by the medical device excise tax; its suspension opens the door for extensive investment in new therapies and better patient care.

We would like to specifically recognize the efforts of our Congressional delegation, led by Senators Dan Coats and Joe Donnelly, along with Representatives Brooks, Bucshon, Messer, Rokita, Stutzman, Walorski and Young.  These lawmakers understand how crippling this tax has been to Indiana’s Medical Device Industry.

“This is a win for patients and innovation” said IMDMC Executive Director, Kathy Heuer.  “Thanks to Congress providing a two-year suspension of this burdensome tax, Indiana medical device companies will be able to reinvest in research & development, ensure that we continue to improve therapies and patient safety, and grow our manufacturing capabilities which will create new jobs.”

“We thank the Indiana Senators and Representatives who provided leadership and support on an issue of importance to our industry and look forward to working with these leaders to repeal the medical device tax altogether. ”
