5 Exciting 2020 Medical Device Trends

To kick off 2020, we sat town with Genesis Plastics Welding President and CEO Tom Ryder to take a look at the latest industry trends within medical device contract manufacturing. He noted there has never been a better time to be in specialized contract manufacturing.

Many medical device contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) are seeing considerable growth due to high demand for innovative home health products, noninvasive surgical devices and connected digital health devices.

Large OEMs are seeking collaborative third party relationships to increase capacity, while remaining cost-effective and versatile. Small to medium start-ups are seeking ways to keep costs down and increase their speed to market.

From large to small, OEMs are relying on CMOs for everything from added manufacturing capacity to product design and development to technical expertise. Multifaceted partners will be key in 2020 and beyond for all OEMs to continue to bring sophisticated niche medical devices to market. Read more

Customizable Heat Sealed Bags | Bioprocessing Bags

In recent years there has been a shift from stainless steel and glass culture vessels to disposable plastic bags and pouches for utilization in cell culture management systems and single-use bioreactors (SUB).  As a global contract manufacturer of customizable heat sealed bags, Genesis Plastics Welding knows there are many factors to consider when designing and manufacturing single-use specialty medical device bags and bioprocessing bags.

Bioprocessing Bags

Whether for collection, feeding, harvesting, storage, transfer or transport, bioprocessing bags can come in all shapes, sizes and materials. All with different hanging requirements and connection specifications, as well. Having much to consider, OEMs in the design and development stages of a specialty cell culture management bag, often lean on collaborative partners to explore materials, sealing methods, sterilization processes and the needed quality specifications. Scottish Life Sciences Association Visits Genesis Plastics Welding

Scotland’s life science sector is doing well in spite of Brexit and the Scottish Life Sciences Association is working to make synergistic connections to support future growth and innovation.

While life science academia has long been at the core of Scotland – the discovery of penicillin, identifying the link between mosquitos and malaria, the invention of the MRI scanner, the birth place of Dolly the Sheep –  the county is now growing by leaps and bounds with start-up medical device companies, as well. Scotland notes vast resources for research and academia, with 19 universities and multiple world leading innovation research centers, but it is lacking in specialty advanced manufacturing resources to support mass production of cutting edge medical devices.

This is where the link between Indiana and Scotland comes into play. Scotland’s population mirrors Indiana’s, not just in size, but similar industry strengths and population health issues. As well as, similar trade organizations working collectively as a voice for their health and life science business community, while connecting key stakeholders to enhance business and advocate member interests. Genesis Plastics Welding Adds AED Unit

Genesis Plastics Welding Adds AED Unit to Manufacturing Facility

In matters of life and death, single moments matter. Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are an important lifesaving technology that can increase the chance of survival for those who suffer heart-related emergencies, such as a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Genesis Plastics Welding is proud to have an AED unit joining its Indianapolis-area advanced manufacturing plant.

What Is a Cardiac Arrest?

A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart unexpectedly stops beating. It strikes people of all ages, even children and teens. When it occurs, the individual collapses, doesn’t respond or breathe normally. They may gasp or shake. A cardiac arrest can lead to death in minutes, if the individual does not get help immediately. Survival depends on bystanders calling 911, starting CPR and using an AED, if available. Read more
