Indiana Product Development Engineer Job Opening

Genesis Plastics Welding is hiring for a Product Development Engineer at our Indianapolis-area headquarters, in Fortville, Indiana.

We are seeking an individual with a hands-on mindset who is ready to jump into new product development opportunities, including development, investigation, evaluating and testing applications, as well as cost/performance improvements to existing products.  Other responsibilities include engineering support to sales/quality/operations/sales/marketing. A mechanical engineering background and plastics experience is preferred.

Duties:

Product Development and/or Improvements:

  • Establish project, product and quality specification
  • Research and propose materials and processes that will meet the specifications
  • Design, order and manage prototype tooling and fixtures
  • Produce prototype samples and record processing steps and outcomes
  • Perform tests on samples to insure they meet specifications
  • Track hours spent by project. Report hours to manager as required
  • Maintain up-to-date records on all testing and development

Material Testing:

  • Evaluate and test incoming materials for licensees
  • Record all results and prepare a test report for Sales
  • Retain records and archival samples
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the technology, areas of concern and estimate of practicality for the application

Materials, Vendors and Technologies:

  • Learn all aspects of the polymers which we deal with in all physical forms (film, foam, fabric)
  • Research vendors to learn their products and capabilities
  • Update and maintain database and physical samples library
  • Develop relationships with key suppliers
  • Research material solutions, costs, availability and specifications for all products in development for job costing purposes
  • Continually research the market place for new technologies to help keep Genesis on the leading edge

Project Management:

  • Manage multiple projects, ensuring that meaningful progress is made on each
  • Synchronize efforts and needs with Production, Operations and Sales to move projects forward as rapidly as possible

  • RF Welding
  • Project Management (PMP Certification or equivalent)
  • AutoCAD

  • Product Launch/Validation

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required.
